Het onderwerp van deze marktconsultatie is gerelateerd aan

strategisch doel I: ‘De trend van koraalrifdegradatie keren om gezonde, veerkrachtige en

weerbare koraalriffen te creëren die een waarborg vormen voor het welzijn in Caribisch

Nederland.’ Met name op Bonaire is eutrofiering een bedreiging voor de koraalriffen in de

wateren rond het eiland1

. Die wordt voornamelijk veroorzaakt door de instroming van

nutriëntrijk grondwater van land naar zee. De verrijking van het grondwater op het

eiland is afkomstig van diverse bronnen: lekkende septic tanks, onvoldoende behandeld

afvalwater (in gebieden met veel toeristen) en ontlasting van loslopend vee. Door de

hoge verdunning en opnamecapaciteit van het zeewater voor deze nutriënten is het lastig

en kostbaar om trends van indicatoren voor eutrofiering vast te stellen. De voorkeur

wordt daarom gegeven aan het meten van de nutriëntinput vanuit het grondwater naar

zee. Hiervoor wordt gebruik gemaakt van grondwatermeetnetten.
