An upcoming open procedure is set to be initiated in the coming months, aiming to engage an economic operator responsible for the construction of the new campus for the Institute for Tourism Studies in Malta through a Design and Build Contract. The necessary planning permits have already secured approval. This notice serves to notify all interested economic operators to gather the required resources and collaborations well ahead of the official contract notice release.
The New ITS Campus Malta Project involves the creation of a modern campus encompassing teaching facilities, dormitories, and office spaces. The main building features a protruding sports hall on its front facade, while the rear side houses public restaurants and an auditorium that overlooks the generously landscaped areas of the campus.
The primary building block covers a substantial portion of the site and is planned to rise eight stories above ground and three below. The lower levels house the teaching spaces, which not only include 45 traditional classrooms but also incorporate interactive kitchen demonstration theaters and specialized practice kitchens for activities such as wine tasting, bartending, and cooking. Furthermore, language labs with seating for 72 students complement the hospitality-focused curriculum. The lower levels also include a main reception area on the ground floor, two restaurants, bars, and the central campus cafeteria. Additionally, this level hosts a multi-purpose hall with a minimum seating capacity of 184. The basement level serves as a convenient link to the gymnasium and spa, eliminating the need to go outdoors for access. Three levels of dormitory space are situated above the teaching areas, while the upper two floors embrace an open-plan design to allow adaptable interior layouts.
The architectural design, characterized by its contemporary style, embodies the innovative approach of the institution. It embraces novel and diverse possibilities that encourage students to explore new heights of creativity. The fluid lines and dynamic elements of the architecture contribute to an ever-evolving impression, and the extensive glazed walls flood the indoor spaces with natural light, fostering a vibrant ambiance for the occupants.
The design intends to cultivate a sense of belonging and community, enhancing the student experience through ample open spaces and gentle landscaping. This approach not only aligns with sustainable development principles but also nurtures a connection between residents and students, fostering an environment of familiarity. Ultimately, the campus aspires to evolve into a microcosm akin to a city, echoing the same vision that inspired the creation of the Smart City concept.
The project is expected to be fully completed within an estimated span of 730 days, and subsequent to its completion, the contractor will be entrusted with maintaining the developments according to the terms of the Maintenance Agreement for a duration of ten years.
