      4. Short description:

The proposed development comprises the construction of The National Maternity Hospital at St. Vincent’s University Hospital campus, Elm Park, Dublin 4. The gross floor area of the building will be up to 53,676m2 including shared services / facilities for both the new National Maternity Hospital and the existing St. Vincent’s University Hospital Campus. The subject of this competition comprises all works associated with the supply and installation of the mechanical infrastructure, services and equipment required to ensure the new national maternity hospital operates and functions in line with the intent, design drawings and specifications (including the commissioning etc.) of same, and to ensure the successful handover of the building for opening / operation in line with the overall project programme. The proposed new National Maternity Hospital building will be located at the eastern side of the hospital campus and comprises the construction of a building that rises to seven (7) storeys above ground level, with one partial basement level, plus additional ancillary plant areas on the roof level, giving an overall height of 42.300m. The gross floor area of the building will be up to 53,676m2 including shared services / facilities for both the new National Maternity Hospital and the existing St. Vincent’s University Hospital Campus. The proposed development will be constructed in a sequential manner that allows for the continual operation of the hospital campus and, as such, includes the phased demolition of approximately 8,150m2 of existing buildings at St. Vincent’s University Hospital campus to facilitate clearing the site for the proposed development, the construction of approximately 6,400m2 of temporary accommodation to facilitate construction sequencing (including Purchasing + Stores Building, Carpenter"s Workshop a Waste Marshalling Yard etc.) and the relocation of essential infrastructure and equipment. The works may include the provision for Soft Landings, Facilities Maintenance, and other services in support of Operational Readiness. Some advanced and enabling works have been undertaken and successfully completed to facilitate these proposed works and it is intended that further similar works will be undertaken and completed prior to the commencement of this project on site. As this proposed development is located on a live hospital campus, the applicant must note and be aware that other substantial building works will be undertaken on the campus during the construction period of this development; these building works may vary between small to large scale projects (i.e., of values ranging from €10.0m to in excess of €150m) and be highly serviced facilities and of similar complexity etc. Due to the nature and scale of these potential works, the intended form of construction contract for use on the project (Main Building Contractor) is the PW-CF1 – Building Works designed by the Employer, which may, subject to approval from the Government Construction Contracts Committee, incorporate some potential amendments to the standard form of contract, in order to suit and facilitate the construction of this new hospital. All authorised amendments will be clearly set out and identified within the second stage of the tender process. The Reserved Specialist contract shall be NN sub-contract (for Reserved Specialist only).
