         Die Instandhaltung nach EN 12675, EN 12368, DIN VDE 0832, DIN 31051, DIN VDE 0105, DIN VDE 0100, DIN VDE V 0832-110, DIN VDE 0832-700, DIN VDE 0831 und RiLSA (nach hessischem Einführungserlass) in ihren jeweils aktuellen Fassungen umfasst die Inspektion, die Wartung und die Instandsetzung, sie fällt zeit- sowie zustandsabhängig an. Die Instandhaltung umfasst die technische Betreuung der verkehrstechnischen Einrichtungen während der Vertragslaufzeit. Sie muss eine hohe Betriebssicherheit und somit die Sicherheit aller Verkehrsteilnehmer gewährleisten.

         Die Wartung und Inspektion sind innerhalb der von der DIN 0832 vorgegebenen Zeiträume in den üblichen Arbeitszeiten, auszuführen. Die Prüfungsabstände sind einzuhalten. Hiervon ausgenommen sind Tragwerke, welche einer Überprüfung nach DIN 1076 unterliegen. Der Umfang der jeweils in den vorgeschriebenen Abständen auszuführenden Leistungen ist in einer Instandhaltungsdokumentation festzuhalten.

         Neben den Normen, die in der VOB/C erfasst sind, sind auch alle übrigen relevanten Normen des Deutschen Instituts für Normung e.V. (DIN) bzw. die in Deutschland eingeführten europäischen Normen DIN EN einzuhalten. Normentwürfe und Vornormen sind wie Normen zu behandeln. Ebenso gelten die allgemein anerkannten Regeln der Bautechnik.
