         La notion de « dépérissement du vignoble » désigne une baisse pluriannuelle subie de la productivité du cep pouvant être suivie par sa mort prématurée, brutale ou progressive. Ces dépérissements sont liés à un ensemble de facteurs biologiques ou environnementaux et de pratiques viticoles contribuant à affaiblir le cep au cours du temps et susceptibles de déclencher un processus irréversible en l"absence de moyens de lutte. Le dépérissement a été déclaré « cause nationale » le 21 octobre 2015 en Conseil spécialisé Vin de FranceAgriMer. Un accord-cadre a été signé en 2016 et a permis la naissance du Plan National Dépérissement du Vignoble. En 2022, après une étude d’évaluation intermédiaire du premier PNDV, le Plan est rentré dans une phase 2 de 3 ans plus appliquée. Ce second volet a mis l’accent sur le transfert et la régionalisation. Ce volet 2 nécessite une évaluation pour objectiver ses avancées mais aussi pour formuler des propositions d’évolution en vue d’une éventuelle poursuite.
