Acquisition of a Thermal desorber-Gas chromatograph-Mass Spectrometer to the Center for Volatile Interactions
Center for Volatile Interactions is a research center, which aims to characterize and quantify the production and consumption of volatiles by understudied organisms and environments, such as mosses, lichens, soils as well as fresh and marine waters. University of Copenhagen hosts 5000 researchers and 37500 students, and is the oldest university in Denmark.
The Thermal desorber-Gas chromatograph-Mass Spectrometer system will be used analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) collected from plant, soil and water samples via sorbent cartridges and Hisorb probes. The VOC analysis aims for both targeted and untargeted quantification of VOCs emissions in diverse biological samples.
Section IV: Procedure
1. It must be a Gas Chromatograph coupled with single quadrupole Mass Spectrometer and automated Thermal Desorption system with below specifications.
2. Gas Chromatograph should have touch screen display, retention time locking facility and peak area repeatability of 0.5% RSD. Instrument should have browser interface facility so that it can be accessed remotely.
3. High sensitive Mass Spectrometer with 5000:1 of S/N and instrument detection limit of 10 fg. Both S/N and IDL should be measured with OFN.
4. Quadrupole should be heated upto 200 degree C to have minimum maintainace/cleaning required.
5. Quadrupole should be hyperbolic in shape to have best resolution.
6. Quadrupole should be made of Quartz so that it can be heated.
7. There should be provision of automatic cleaning of ion source with hydrogen or any other gas.
8. Thermal desorption should have 100 tubes sampler with recollection facility.
9. There should be provision of dynamic sampling of water and soil with probe which can be coupled with Thermal Desorption.
10. Instrument should have inbuilt features like Early maintainace feedback, autonomous diagnostic test, user initiated diagnostic test, self-guided trouble shooting etc.
11. Instrument should have backflush facility for better operation.
The instrumentation will be used alongside a similar existing instrumentation sharing a pool of spareparts.
The instrument will be used with existing 3.5” x ¼” sorbent tubes and Hisorb probes.
