Styx - Microfluidic Screening Platform
Styx is a platform suitable for droplet-based microfluidics setup. Styx is a droplet sorter that com-bines fluorescence analysis and droplet handling systems controlled with an off-line software ideal for functional screening workflows.
Styx is a platform suitable for droplet-based microfluidics setup. Styx is a droplet sorter that com-bines fluorescence analysis and droplet handling systems controlled with an off-line software ideal for functional screening workflows. It has two high speed cameras that allow the observation junc-tion and downstream outlets of the sorting process. It has 4 lasers (405, 488, 561 and 638 nm) that allow a different range of fluorescence assays suitable for phenotypical screening purposes. Drop-let sorting is necessary through the droplet-based microfluidics setup for the selection of positive (or targeted) droplets/cells after carrying out any fluorescence assay. The sorting is enabled based on 2 high-voltage channels that are able to perform two droplet manipulation simultaneously. Styx is the fluorescence equipment where you put your sorting microfluidic chip, connected with inlets (spacing oil and droplets) and outlets (negative and positive sorted droplets) flowing in and out based on pressure pumps. Styx allows no lock-in for chips and reagents, meaning that DTU can purchase those from other companies without having drawbacks with the equipment.
Section IV: Procedure
DTU are already in the possession of two of the Droplet Genomics platforms for generation of drops.
It is DTU’s expectation that it would be almost impossible to 1:1 adapt for equipment from other suppliers. Choosing another supplier would make the large investment in the droplet generators obsolete.
Additionally, DTU finds that the Styx from Droplet genomics has the optimal combination of low running cost and easy entrance for using and maintaining the system. Higher running costs and entrance costs would exceed the budget and make the purchase practically impossible.
All in all, covering these extra costs are associated with disproportionately large costs for another supplier, which is not commensurate with the value of the contract.
It is therefore DTU’s assessment that a direct award can be made in accordance with Section 81, act. 1, no. 2 and Section 80, act 3, no. 2.

Section VI: Complementary information
Complaint that the Contracting Authority, contrary to the Public Procurement Act, has concluded a contract without prior publication of a contract notice in the European Union Official Journal must be submitted no later than 30 calendar days from the date after a contract award notice has been published by the Contracting Authority in the European Union Official Journal and that contract award notice includes the grounds for the decision to award the contract directly, cf. lov om Klagenævnet for Udbud (Complaints Board for Tenders) § 7, section 3.
