This project includes the manual establishment brushing of approximately 89 hectares on 5 treatment units at production rate, and the possibility of another 56 hectares on 5 treatment units at
dayrate, within the Kootenay Lake Field Unit. Another 20 person days have been included for possible treatment units that may be identified through 2026 recces and surveys. Total possible
dayrate days is 130 days. These days and units are not guaranteed. The majority of the treatment units are spread across the northern Kootenay Lake operating area with a small
amount of work in the south. These day-rate blocks are to be determined after 2026 spring recce/ walkthroughs by BCTS are conducted. These blocks include section 108 blocks that have been
burned by wildfire. It is uncertain if all this ground is plantable or if it will require brushing. Day rate services are all found and bid per person, per day, and are assuming one truck with
a crew of 4 or 5 workers or multiples thereof.
Manual brushing includes cutting all competing vegetation within a 1.25m cylinder around crop trees, with a power saw or similar, in accordance with the contract treatment specifications. All
manual brushing will use a 1.25m ‘variable radius’ around crop trees unless otherwise directed. On steep slopes this results in more cutting above the crop tree, less cutting below. See
Section 8 of Schedule C and the treatment prescriptions for full specifications.
All specific information regarding crop trees species, heights, target vegetation and other important information is included in Appendix II – Vegetation Management
Prescription and Appendix IV – Brushing Treatment Ledger.
This tender will acquire both PRODUCTION unit rates as well as person DAY rates for the performance of this work.
There is a minimum production requirement of satisfactorily treating 5 (five) hectares per workday, based on 5 workdays per 7-day period. There is a minimum ‘dayrate’
requirement of brushing a minimum of 0.5 hectares/worker/day for day-rate based units. Expected time frame for brushing operations critical for crop establishment
(Establishment Brushing) is early to mid-June 2026 – late July 2026. All establishment brushing works must be completed by the end of July 2026 unless mutually agreeable in
writing by the contractor and the Ministry Representative. If fire hazard shutdowns impact the completion of work in July, the remaining work will be delayed to September 2026.
The attached Schedules contain many important treatment and payment details relating to this contract; please review them carefully.
