Art & Social Studies Library (ASSL) Roof Works

Cardiff University are seeking to appoint a contractor to undertake a full scope of works to the Cardiff Universities Arts and Social Studies Library (CU ASSL). The works form part of a refurbishment programme that seek to make improvements to the buildings fabric and extend its serviceable life while seeking to improve the overall student experience until such time as a new library is opened

The roof to the ASSL library is circa 2,060m2 and consists of a warm flat roof deck with an asphalt covering and internal drainage laid over a concrete structure. Works to include the existing lift motor room roof circa 10m2. The scope of works consists of:-

Careful removal and setting aside of the existing perimeter handrail system together with weights.

Full removal of the existing covering and sublayer build up roof membranes back to deck.

Undertaking of visual assessment of the deck

Undertaking of isolated repair works to the deck

Installation of new specialist certified roofing system

Servicing and power flushing to all existing rain water outlets.

Reinstatement of perimeter handrail system.

The Arts and Social Studies Library was built in the 1970s and was part of the Modern Movement of architecture. The building consists of four storeys, these have been labelled by the University as lower ground, upper ground, first and second floor.

The building is a purpose-built Library consisting of a concrete frame construction incorporating pre-cast concrete waffle slabs. The asset consists of a flat roof with an asphalt covering, single glazed steel Crittall windows with a newer double glazed, powder coated aluminium door set to the main entrance.

Access to the Procurement documents will close at 12 Noon on the 14th July in order for Site Visits to take place W/C 17th July 2023. Further details regarding site visits are contained in Schedule 2 - Specification.

The University reserves the right to award the contract in whole or in part.

The University reserves the right to annul the tendering process and not award any contract.
