E-waste Awareness Campaign and Collection Pilot in Irbid (Албания - Тендер #47583644)

The Ministry of Environment (MoEnv) is implementing the project “Reduction and Elimination of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and other chemical releases through implementation of environmentally sound management of E-Waste, healthcare waste and priority Unintentional POPs release sources associated with general waste management activities” with UNDP technical support and the Global Environment facility (GEF) fund. The project aims to protect human health and the environment from the negative impacts of (POPs), as POPs is an organic toxic substance that accumulates in the human body and stays long in the environment causing serious damage.

The UNDP Jordan country office seeks to contract a service provider to raise awareness both for local population, and workers in the fields of e-waste collection and dismantling, targeting the sustainability of e-waste proper management and the reduction of plastics burning at the dismantling or final disposal stage. The assignment will enhance the e-waste collection points installed at the public parks in Irbid, and in the government offices, and will support the Irbid Municipality dismantling facility in the Truck City with quantities of valuable e-waste. The assignment is assumed to create awareness, momentum and will within the population to continue proper disposal of e-waste and create linkages between the workers in the field with the municipality to safely handover plastics potentially contaminated with POPs.
