         Con la ejecución de la obra se pretende solventar los problemas existentes de capacidad y seguridad en la glorieta de Belén María, situada en el PK 0+000 de la GC-1, que permite el acceso a importantes elementos generadores y atractores de tráfico de escala insular, como son la zona portuaria del Puerto de Las Palmas, el polígono industrial de El Sebadal y el barrio capitalino de La Isleta, dando continuidad a los sentidos Sebadal - Avenida Marítima y Avenida Marítima - Sebadal, mediante un soterramiento, con dos carriles de 3,5 metros de anchura, uno por sentido de circulación, mediana (incluyendo arcenes interiores) de 2 metros, arcenes exteriores (incluyendo una pequeña acera para labores de mantenimiento) de 0,5 metros.
