         RWS heeft vergaande ambities op het gebied van duurzaamheid. Deze ambities kunnen alleen

         gerealiseerd worden indien duurzame producten, zoals duurzaam asfalt, kunnen worden toegepast

         binnen de werken van RWS. Asfalt is één van de grootste materiaal stromen bij Rijkswaterstaat en

         veroorzaakt dik 30 % van de CO2 uitstoot door RWS. Mede door het instellen van het Transitiepad

         Duurzame Wegdekken (waaraan het ITC bijdraagt) wil RWS zorgen dat deze markt deze nieuwe

         duurzame asfaltsoorten ontwikkelt en vervolgens kan toepassen. De eis om deze te mogen

         toepassen is om een succesvol validatietraject te mogen doorlopen. De inzet van de (test)kennis

         van TU Delft is nodig om deze validatie beoordelingen goed te kunnen uitvoeren. Binnen het

         Transitiepad Duurzame Wegdekken participeren een heel aantal onderdelen, met name WVL, GPO,

         PPO en de Regio. De rol van ITC (onderdeel WVL) is het begeleiden van de (maatwerk) validatie
