         The Coda Terminal is a new, cost-efficient, large-scale carbon dioxide (CO2) mineral storage facility in Straumsvik, SW-Iceland. It is designed to receive up to 3 million tonnes of CO2 annually via custom built vessels from Europe. The Coda Terminal will offer a reliable low-cost transport and storage solution for emitters in N-Europe. By adding mineral carbonation as alternative to the more common injection of CO2 into sedimentary basins, CCS could be applied in areas where it has not been previously considered, unlocking the vast storage capacity of basaltic rocks, increasing the opportunities for pairing of sinks and sources, reducing transport costs, and adding to CO2 storage reservoirs worldwide. Deployment of the first-of-a-kind onshore Coda Terminal will provide a steppingstone to kick-start carbon capture projects with economical storage guaranteed. The sequestration system of the Coda Terminal will consist of about 50 to 100 wells that will be drilled over the construction and scale up process of the terminal project.
