domain is a memory-safe library that enables developers to interact with the global DNS system through a standardised API, in order to enable applications to make connections that are as secure as possible using modern, open standards. It is part of a suite of libraries being developed by NLNet Labs in order to fulfil its mission to make the the Internet more reliable and resilient for all its users

Core functions for the interaction of application developers with DNS are to be implemented. Furthermore, all components that are required for a DNS server are to be created. This includes primary and secondary name servers as well as the server side of proxies and recursors. This will give DNS operators and infrastructure providers the tools they need to provide DNS services. It will also implement features that enable scaling, security, and privacy by allowing selective DNS request routing and implementation of a simple DNS proxy, and help standardize a very common use case for DNS.

Finally, dig and ldns will be reworked to validate and debug DNS configurations.
