The Metis Family Resource Worker Program is designed to assist in ensuring the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of Metis children, youth and families are being met. These needs
will be met through staff resources that establish community and cultural connections; providing support where required on a case by case basis. Meaningful involvement of a Metis Family
Resource Worker ensures cultural expertise and consistency in supporting children and families by maintaining cultural ties to their communities and preserving cultural identity.
Support provided by the Metis Family Resource Worker consists of, but is not limited to:
• Supporting Metis children, youth and families in understanding their identity by establishing belonging and connection to community, culture, spirituality, language, values, and
heritage.
• Potentially re-establishing previous cultural connections and/or developing new relationships and links to informal and formal cultural supports and community programs.
• Increasing knowledge regarding Metis support and assistance that is offered within the various regions of Alberta.
• Empowering Metis families and communities to help raise children within traditional cultural practices and traditional homes.
