The City of Calgary is seeking proposals from qualified engineering consulting firms to provide multi- disciplinary engineering & for the 15th Street Sanitary Trunk Project, a critical
component of the sanitary system conveying flows to the Bonnybrook Wastewater Treatment Plant. The sanitary trunk crosses the Bow River, runs along 15th Street SE, and passes beneath the active
Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Alyth Yard, where two large-diameter trunk lines (2400 mm and 1800 mm) present significant operational and access challenges. Limited redundancy, lack of
isolation and diversion structures, and restricted physical access make inspections, maintenance, and emergency response difficult.
The project aims to improve system resilience by identifying feasible solutions for safe access, isolation, and flow diversion, including potential re-routing options outside the rail corridor.
The selected consultant will assess hydraulic and operational feasibility, develop flow off-loading options, and recommend secure methods for accessing and maintaining the mains beneath the
yard. The work will also evaluate opportunities to enhance long-term capacity, reliability, and environmental performance while minimizing service disruptions.
The project is anticipated to include the following phases:
• Phase 1: Options Analysis and Conceptual Design
• Phase 2: Preliminary Design, Detailed Design, and Procurement Documents Preparation (Optional Future Phase)
• Phase 3: Procurement Process Support and Contact Administration (Optional Future Phase)
• Phase 4: Post-Construction Services and Project Closeout (Optional Future Phase)
