The Owner is implementing the fourth interation of the Wapiti River Long Term Monitoring Program (LTMP) to which the first iteration occurred in 2017 with subsequent iterations in 2020 and 2023. The next iteration will have Aquatera in-river in 2026. The intent of the program is long-term monitoring of the Wapiti River and to monitor the cumulative effects operations have on the water quality and ecosystem health. This is a requirement of Aquatera as per Water Act Licence 00277161-00-00 (and amendments). In 2014, the LTMP was developed and submitted to Alberta Environment for approval. The LTMP was designed to meet the conditions of Aquatera’s long-term 25-year diversion licence (Water Act Licence #00277161-00-00 and amendments). The overall goal of the LTMP is to investigate and measure individual and combined effects of effluent discharge from Aquateras WWTP and downstream operations (i.e. pulp and paper mill) on water quality and aquatic ecosystem health in the Wapiti River.
