Description

Work is underway to designate the Minister and the ministry of Seniors, Community and Social Services (SCSS) as Custodians under the Health Information Act (HIA). One of the primary goals of making the Minister and SCSS Custodians is to allow for the efficient sharing and actioning of information regarding Alternate Level of Care (ALC) patients across ministries. This will enable ALC patients to be cared for in the right place, at the right time, by the right care providers, including the provision of financial and social supports. The Province wishes to engage the services of a Privacy Officer to: • give day to day information and advice regarding the Minister’s and SCSS’ transition to Custodian, including advice about compliance with FOIP, the HIA, and other applicable privacy legislation; • develop privacy policies and procedures to support the acceptance and use of aggregate health information in Phase I; • develop privacy policies and procedures required to prepare SCSS to receive individual-level health information in Phase II; and • act as a temporary Privacy Officer by taking the lead on inquiries or investigations that involve SCSS immediately following the transition to Custodian.
