Description

Rocky View County surrounds the City of Calgary on its west, east, and north borders and is also home to several smaller urban neighbours that influence its municipal infrastructure. The County’s proximity to these municipalities has contributed to substantial growth in recent years. The existing Fire Station in the Hamlet of Madden has reached capacity, impacting the effective and efficient delivery of emergency services. To enhance emergency response capabilities within Madden and the surrounding area, Rocky View County is proceeding with the design and construction of a new Emergency Services facility. In November 2024, Council approved the development of an approximately 11,200-square-foot facility on a 4.0-hectare parcel, with an estimated construction budget of $4.1 million (building only). The project is scheduled for substantial completion in Fall 2027. The new Fire Station will feature two double-deep apparatus bays and accommodate up to 40 volunteer firefighters. Additionally, the design will incorporate flexibility for a potential transition to a full-time emergency response facility. Key facility components will include: •Office space •IT room •Lunchroom •Instructional training room •Infrastructure to support information technology, safety, security, accessibility, and telecommunications Water and wastewater services will be provided via an on-site well and septic storage tank. Due to ongoing land negotiations, the County is unable to provide a location map of the proposed site within the Hamlet of Madden at this time. The County welcomes innovative design recommendations from the selected architect to optimize space and support a high-functioning work environment. While this facility will not pursue LEED certification, the County remains committed to sustainable design principles and environmental stewardship, incorporating low-impact, cost-effective solutions that provide long-term value to the community.
