Environment and Climate Change Canada has a requirement for the Decarbonizing Pathways for Canada’s Industrial Sector analysis as detailed in the Statement of Work, Annex “A” to the bid
solicitation. The period of the contract is from contract award to March 31, 2025, inclusively.
The objective of this project is to:
a. Identify current and possible pathways for decarbonization.
b. Identify the infrastructure needs for the decarbonized equipment, including an analysis of capital costs, electricity demand and capacity, carbon intensity of electricity sourced from
utilities, and any necessary installation and maintenance of on-site power generation (i.e., solar, wind, hydrogen, etc.) and storage.
c. Identify challenges and market barriers to the adoption of zero-emission technologies and clean fuels for industrial equipment in Canada.
d. Compare the cost, GHG emissions and air pollutant emissions of comparable fossil fueled combustion, clean fuels combustion and zero-emission industrial equipment.
e. Identify the current market availability of technologies identified in the pathways for decarbonization (Canada, North America, Europe, Asia, etc.)
f. Identify equipment utilization/operation profiles, including operation site(s) location(s) and typical infrastructure availability, operation duty cycle(s), typical operation load(s).
To meet these objectives, the study will consider equipment used for various industrial operations (i.e., Light Manufacturing, Pulp & Paper factories, Iron & Steel factories, etc.) that
are representative of Canada’s industrial sector.
