Description

The Transportation Tomorrow Survey (TTS) has been a cornerstone for capturing commuting patterns, trip lengths, and mode choices. The TTS data serves as a critical resource for understanding users of the transportation system and their trends within the Greater Golden Horseshoe Area (GGHA), and it is integral to transportation planning and policy decisions in the area. However, the TTS has been facing increased challenges due to evolving dynamics in commuting patterns, like the rise of remote work and changing public attitudes towards surveys, there is a need to upgrade the TTS to stay relevant and effective.
The TTS Modernization Initiative is a comprehensive and multifaceted project designed to revitalize the existing TTS. It aims to adapt the survey to current travel trends and technological advancements, incorporating insights from the 2022/23 TTS and the 2015-2019 TTS 2.0 R&D project. This initiative focuses on improving respondent engagement and data quality, streamlining survey processes, and reducing costs, thereby ensuring the TTS remains a crucial tool for transportation planning. Moreover, it will emphasise on user-friendly methods and innovative technologies, as it seeks to increase participation rates and capture diverse transportation behaviours more accurately and efficiently.
