Background. The VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS) Hematology department requires 1 bone marrow slide stainer.

Scope.

The VA Pittsburgh hematology laboratory department requires a tabletop bone marrow slide stainer to automate the staining of bone marrow slides for enhanced clarity of bone marrow slides making them uniform in appearance, improving laboratory practices, and improving laboratory turnaround time.

The bone marrow stainer will be used in the hematology department and must meet the criteria listed below due to spacing restraints, provider preference, and infection control guidelines.

Specific Tasks.

We are requesting 1 Bone marrow slide stainer Specific criteria that must meet:

• • Tabletop instrument of measurement no larger than 22 in W x 10 in H x 21 in L
  • Capacity of approximately 540 slides an hour
  • Weight of instrument of 35.9 lbs.
  • Cytocentrifuge combined with bone marrow stainer
  • Fresh application of stain on each slide to prevent cross-contamination
  • Automated nozzle cleaning after each stain cycle
  • Programmable functions to accommodate differing staining intensities for personal preference
