SwAM has signed an agreement with Sida, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency to implement a global programme for international development cooperation – "SwAM Ocean". The program runs from January 2025 – December 2027. Within the framework of the programme, there is an activity on marine conservation focusing on area based management like marine protected areas (MPAs) or equivalent. The aim of the activity is to increase capacity in adaptive management of MPAs and a wish to use and build capacity on-site, based on the theory behind the methodology the Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation (short Conservation Standards). Another objective is to support other conservation measures that benefit biodiversity, like LMMAs, CMAs and similar. Effective and inclusive management processes that improve affected communities’ livelihood opportunities, while contributing to conservation are key, as well as addressing gender equality and climate preparedness. SwAM intends to procure an expert organization to support the adaptive management processes in area based management. The support on adaptive management shall include potential impacts of and resilience to climate change into the management of biodiversity and communities and guidance on how to use the Conservation Standards to set and follow up on goals connected to poverty alleviation and gender equality.The assignment includes a maximum budget of SEK 2 350 000.
