Ōpōtiki District Council (Council) intends to procure a suitably experienced and competent contractor to undertake desludging works at the Ōpōtiki Wastewater Treatment Pond. The desludging
forms a critical enabling activity within Council’s wider wastewater treatment plant upgrade programme.
Removal of accumulated sludge is required to manage operational, environmental and programme risks and to enable subsequent works, particularly the installation of a baffle curtain and other
future pond improvements. The desludging works will be staged and are expected to be delivered through two separable portions under a single contract.
This is a specialised activity with a limited supplier market. Council is seeking suppliers who can demonstrate:
■ proven experience desludging wastewater ponds of similar scale and complexity;
■ robust methodologies that minimise risk to the pond liner and surrounding environment;
■ effective dewatering and disposal solutions that manage cost and programme risk;
■ experienced personnel and reliable access to suitable plant and equipment; and
■ strong health, safety and environmental management systems.
