The Waikato District Council (WDC) is undertaking a review of the district"s Growth and Economic Development Strategy - Waikato 2070. At the same time, Waipā District Council (Waipā DC) is
reviewing its Waipā 2050 Strategy and Matamata-Piako District Council (MPDC) is embarking on a Growth Strategy. As part of this process, WDC seeks to commission a Subregional Employment Land
Assessment to understand the sub-region"s growth and economic development potential over the next 50 years.
The subregion sits within a dynamic and interconnected regional economy, influenced by the Auckland southern market, Tauranga Eastern market; Hamilton City, Matamata-Piako District, and the
Waipā District. The assessment will therefore need to adopt a borderless approach (like Future Proof Area), considering cross-boundary economic and employment dynamics and market forces across
these areas.
The findings will inform future planning for industrial, commercial and retail land supply, zoning, and infrastructure investment, supporting sustainable economic growth aligned with regional
strategies and infrastructure planning.
