This procurement relates to the purchase of services to deliver a rotational library suite of ready-made science/pūtaiao kits to enhance science education and ensure a more consistent science
and pūtaiao education experience is applied across schools and kura.
This initiative directly supports the Government’s Teaching the Basics Brilliantly policy, which prioritises clear, structured teaching in reading, writing, maths, and science. Enhancing
science and pūtaiao education is essential to lifting scientific literacy and ensuring all students have access to foundational knowledge and skills to support the refreshed New Zealand
Curriculum and redesigned Te Marautanga o Aotearoa.
Student achievement in science has declined over time, as evidenced by international measures such as the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). This initiative responds to that
challenge by providing high-quality, standardised science and pūtaiao resources that support consistent and effective teaching across all schools and kura and aims to improve equity in science
and pūtaiao education outcomes across all state and state-integrated schools and kura, Years 0–8.
Strong science and pūtaiao education is essential for New Zealand’s future. It drives economic growth by fostering innovation, developing a skilled workforce, and promoting technological
advancement. A more comprehensive and equitable science and pūtaiao education system is vital for New Zealand’s global competitiveness and its ability to respond to emerging challenges.
