With the successful completion of Stage 2 of Auckland Zoo’s Physical Masterplan - Southeast Asia Jungle Track (SEAJT), Auckland Zoo has now commenced Stage 3 of the ongoing site renewals
programme.
The Masterplan Stage 3 programme, Rangitupu, is split into three projects:
o Project 1: Takutai/NZ Coast, Nature Play;
o Project 2: Savannah III;
o Project 3: Africa Safari Connection.
The programme aims to deliver on all seven of Auckland Zoos Strategic Commitments, which in turn enable us to be a key contributor to Tātaki Auckland Unlimited’s (TAU) purpose of "enriching
cultural and economic life in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland” and Statement of Intent (SOI).
Early phases of design are underway, with an ambition to complete the Preliminary Design phase of Project 1 by June of 2025.
As such, the programme is poised to commence its engagement with a suitably competent Contractor, to provide early inputs to design and commence critical construction procurement with
specialist subcontractor design portions.
Critical to this procurement is engagement with a Contractor who is suitably experienced in detailed and complex Early Contractor Inputs (ECI), with staged procurement and progressive trade
letting as well as having suitable experience working within changing, live, environments, preferably within the visitor experience sector. This extends to also having a successful track record
of delivering Contractor design portions and a deep understanding of the complexity and process this requires.
The selected Contractor should have a strong communication and relationship-building focus, and be solution driven in their delivery.
This procurement has the potential to be a partnership spanning multiple years within a programme of work, so demonstration of longevity and an ability to work as a key team member is
integral.
Finally, the selected Contractor will need to responsive and supportive of sustainability and sustainable practises, as well as indigenous design. This has to come naturally to the successful
party as Rangitupu aims to make meaningful impacts on how visitors engage with te taiao (the natural world) and spark the inspiration for action by its visitors.
