The high-performance automated mass photometer (TwoMP Auto) provided by Refeyn is currently the only instrument in the market which meets all the specific and necessary technical requirements to fulfil the uncompromising needs of the acquiring department as follows:
- Our research requires accurate measurements of the molecular mass of biological macromolecules and particles. Contrary to other techniques, such as size-exclusion chromatography (SEC) and multiple angle light scattering (MALS), the new system will allow us to measure the molecular mass independently of the hydrodynamic radius of the samples, thus enabling the differentiation between samples of similar size but different mass, e.g., unloaded gene delivery viral particles.
- Our research requires the exact characterization of complex samples. As the instrument measures scattering of individual molecules, it provides direct information about sub-populations, which is not possible in other techniques (e.g., SPR, BLI, DLS). Consequently, no extra chromatography step is required prior to the measurements.
- Our research requires minimal sample amount at pM to nM range as most samples are recombinant proteins that are difficult to purify at high quantities. The required sample concentration is within the sensitivity range of the instrument. Moreover, the required sample volume for each measurement is a few microlitres, bringing the needed amount of the sample to nanogram levels (instrument sensitivity <<1ng).
- The instrument carries out all the required measurements in the absence of any labelling or protein modifications, thus no prior ‘sample engineering’ is needed.
- Our measurements require high spatial resolution (FWHM) - at least 25 kDa at 66 kDa and 60 kDa at 660 kDa.
- Our research requires screening of various conditions. The instrument offers automated sample measurements with precise (2%) and efficient mass characterization of 14 samples automatically measured and analyzed within 1 hr.
According to the Act on Public Procurement and Concession Contracts (1397/2016) section 40 when
only a certain supplier can implement the procurement for a technical reason, provided also that there are no reasonable alternatives or substitute solutions, and that the absence of competition is not due to an artificial narrowing of the terms and conditions of the procurement, the contract may be awarded only to a particular supplier and contracting authorities may award public contracts by a direct award.
Prior to making decision the Contracting authority has inspected the relevant markets and available products and after careful consideration found its conclusion grounded.
