The Caribou Habitat Recovery Program (CHRP) is focused on restoring legacy seismic lines to support habitat recovery in caribou range and other areas identified in land-use plans. The CHRP
works to ensure that restoration projects are coordinated with other planning efforts that are occurring within the province. This includes alignment with sub-regional plan commitments,
Indigenous partnerships and industry-led projects. As the CHRP continues to scale, tracking data and accurately forecasting and planning have become increasingly challenging with current tools
available within GoA. To address these limitations, the program team is seeking an established software solution that can be customized to meet the following requirements. The software must
also be adaptable to work with linear features, with particular focus on legacy seismic lines. Example of required capabilities include, but are not limited to: Reducing planning and
implementation costs of organizing mass planting of trees on seismic lines by automating processes and analysis of projects to find efficiencies. For example:
- Use existing data (vegetation, ecosite, and other data) to forecast preliminary reforestation prescriptions and estimate costs.
- Determine seed zone and identify if current seed stock is adequate to meet the need.
- Identify stakeholders (trappers and industry land users)
- Providing a customizable interface for contractors to upload specific spatial data products
- Conducts quality control checks on incoming spatial data deliverables to ensure:
- Data integrity (i.e. the data is not corrupted, mis-projected, or for the wrong area),
- Data cleanliness (data has the correct naming and value schemes), and
- Logical consistency (prescriptions match, to a reasonable degree, the known physical properties of their locations)
- Track seedling orders
- Tracks program funding (grants and funding sources)
- Tracks costs and expenditures, and can associate these with their source grant
- Helps the user to delineate project boundaries based on access-related datasets and seismic line data
- Creates project budgets based on user-delineated boundaries, provides capacity for users to delineate multiple boundaries to explore different cost scenarios
- Produces project budgets that can be shared with contractors
- Compares project budgets with actual expenditures
- Provides flexible reporting
- Tracks procurement details from grants and contracts,
- Reporting on program progress to date which includes the amount of legacy seismic lines planned or treated and how many trees have been planted,
- Able to generate customized reports on any aspect of the tracked data
- Produces annual work plans based on scheduled projects
- Identifies areas that are scheduled for monitoring
- Identifies clusters of areas in space/time that allow monitoring plots to be set up together, to find efficiencies
- Auto-generate preliminary treatment activities
- Track, manage and report all activities associated with the program
- Tracks treatment modifiers, analyzes differences between planned treatments and final submitted treatment data, and generates reports on variances. Integrates with field data collection tools
to minimize manual entry of data
- Holds all spatial data related to the CHRP with a built-in map viewer where spatial layers can be viewed easily.
- Provides a mapping tool with customizable templates to generate maps from CHRP related spatial data, while supporting integration of additional geospatial datasets.
- Tracks monitoring data, and allows for data exploration to associate success or failure of planting with natural variables, seed source, planting method, site preparation, seismic line
properties, or other known variables
The current use would be for 6-10 internal users and approximately 20-30 contractors to submit data.
