Description

The Child Support Services program (CSS) is a part of the Ministry of Assisted Living and Social Services (ALSS). CSS works with single parents and parents in blended families accessing financial support from the Ministry, such as Income Support, Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped and Alberta Health Benefits. CSS also assists other Albertans not in receipt of assistance based on suitability and income eligibility. Under the Income Employment Supports Act (IESA), Regulations, and Policy, CSS assists single parents and parents in blended families (Applicants) negotiate child support agreements or obtain child support orders. Whenever possible, child support agreements are negotiated, or consent orders are obtained, between the parents. Where the parties cannot agree on child support, CSS assist Applicants with their applications for child support in the Court of King’s Bench. The court process requires that the application, which often includes a scheduled court date, be served on the other party (the Respondent). This is referred to as Process Serving. Some matters may proceed to a court hearing, which may require the service of additional legal documents.
