Description

Since the 1990s, the Capital Regional District (CRD) has commissioned studies to assess the composition of waste being disposed of at Hartland Landfill. To date, there are no formal studies or data available on waste generated at the industrial, commercial and institutional and multi-family sectors. There is also only limited information available for the single-family sector across the capital region.

The intention of the Solid Waste Generator Study is to close this gap by characterizing waste composition and estimating the generation volumes of garbage, recycling and organics waste streams from various sectors across the capital region. This study will provide valuable baseline data for comparison on a 3-year cycle and will inform existing programs and guide the development of future CRD strategies and programming.
