Alberta Parks operates 265 sites totaling over 10,400 square kilometers of land. Each year an estimated 12 million visitors come to Alberta’s parks with day use visitation accounting for more than 75% of all visits made. Counting the number of visitors accessing park facilities is necessary to effectively manage sustainable recreation in Alberta’s parks system. Sustainable recreation management relies on recognizing visitor use patterns; where visitors are going and how many are at certain areas during specific times of the day and seasons. This visitation data can be used for multiple purposes including managing natural resources, planning, developing and maintaining programs and facilities to visitor expectations, and quantifying public health and physical activity benefits to park visitors. Alberta Parks is seeking a qualified Contractor to provide automated data transmission and analysis services for existing trail counters. Services include data extraction from field devices, data validation and reconstruction, and integrating and transforming data into a clean, complete, and accessible format for the Province. The Province will own all forms of this data. Access to this data will provide more accurate budget forecasting, information on visitor use patterns, and support evidence-based decision-making. Refer to RFP document for further details and complete scope of work.
