Terraceview Lodge (TVL) is a long-term care home to 121 residents that has previously operated in Partnership with Mills Memorial Hospital (MMH) for the provision of meals for residents. Minor
kitchen equipment was recently added to the TVL kitchen to facilitate cooking onsite of breakfast, lunch, and dinner for all residents. The objective of this project will be to design an
expanded kitchen, prep space and dish pit that will allow TVL to support an independent “Cook Serve” model for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for all
residents. The current kitchen footprint and equipment are insufficient to meet the operational requirements of the cook serve model for all meal services.
Northern Health Authority is looking to obtain the multidisciplinary consultant design services to review the existing TVL Kitchen Space and work with our internal stakeholders to determine the
optimum solution between the following options to remain operational:
1. Design a swing space kitchen that can meet operational needs for the duration of the renovation and expansion of the existing kitchen.
2. Identify an alternate location within the facility for a permanent fully functional kitchen. Leaving the existing kitchen to operate during construction with a demolition and repurposing of
the space at the end of construction.
3. Assess the feasibility of acquiring a modular kitchen to temporarily provide meal service for the duration of the renovation and expansion of the existing kitchen.
A load study and electrical review of the existing study will need to be conducted at the start of design as it is our understanding that there is no additional load capacity at the facility.
