The Town of Gore Bay requires engineering and design proposals for the Rehabilitation of the Kinney Street Bridge.
The Town of Gore Bay is located on the north shore of Manitoulin Island with a beautiful harbour that accesses the North Channel. The Municipality is a single tier municipality, and as such is
responsible for providing services such as fire protection, public works, water and wastewater, parks, and recreation, building and planning and development control. The Municipality is
serviced by Highway 540 and Highway 540B. The Municipality’s current population is approximately 808 (2021 census). The completion of this project will provide continued access to our East
Bluff directly from Town. The East Bluff features two lookouts that are frequently accessed by community residents, outlying communities, and tourists.
Kinney Street Bridge is located approximately 0.5km northeast of Highway 540B and serves as gateway from the Town to the East Bluff, as well as an alternate route out of town. The structure is
a single span 3.3m long 7.2m wide steel girder with a timber deck and asphalt wearing surface. The total deck area on the Bridge is 23.76 sq.m and the roadway width is 5.6m. The structure has
severe corrosion of the girders, severe decay of the decking, disintegration of the mortar and concrete abutment walls and an insufficient guide rail system. There is currently a load
restriction of 5 tonnes posted. Please refer to Appendix A for the 2022 OSIM report for the Bridge.
The project aims to rehabilitate the bridge to ensure safe usage going forward.
