The Department is responsible for the development and implementation of a national training and education package to enhance the effectiveness of police responses to family, domestic and sexual violence (FDSV). This measure was announced through the 2022-23 Budget, and will be delivered under the National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children 2022 – 2032 (National Plan).
The delivery of the package will enhance women and children’s safety by equipping police across Australia to effectively identify, respond to and support victim-survivors of FDSV. The training will include content that focuses on providing appropriate responses to support victim-survivors that represent, but are not limited to diverse community groups and individuals, such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse people, people with disability and LGBTIQA+.
The training will be rolled out nationally through three delivery modes; facilitated face to face sessions, facilitated face to screen sessions, and self-paced online sessions. Following a pilot implementation program in three states and / or territories, the facilitated face to face training will commence. Facilitated face to screen training will commence shortly after, and self-paced online sessions will be rolled out last through a secure Learning Management System (LMS). Face to face, face to screen and self-paced online sessions are expected to last for a 3 hour period each, however the online session can be completed during times suitable for participants.
