Domestic manufacturing of the 155mm M795 artillery projectile is planned to commence in 2028 under the Australian Guided Weapons and Explosives Ordnance (GWEO) Plan. At full capacity, the Australian forge facility in Benalla will produce up to 15,000 rounds per annum (current scope); with the capacity to surge to 100,000 with 12 months" notice.

The Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator (ASCA) is requesting quotations from participants to demonstrate their ability to domestically produce HF-1 steel that meets the MIL-S-70703 and MIL-S-50783 standards and exhibits the required grain structure and mechanical properties, in accordance with US standards.

Respondents must indicate their ability to produce HF-1 steel at an industrial scale, to meet the requirement of 900 tonnes of HF-1 steel bar per annum, with the ability to increase to 4,520 tonnes per annum with a 12-month lead time.
