The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) has a requirement to transport and store ice core samples collected at Little Dome C Antarctica by the Million Year Ice Core (. The ice core samples are for the purpose of climate and Antarctic research. The ice cores are extremely valuable and essentially irreplaceable. Strict temperature, storage and cold chain transport specifications are required to maintain the scientific integrity of the samples for research purposes. This requirement sets out the specifications for two (2) refrigerated container (‘reefer’) units that will be used in the transport and storage cold chain for MYIC samples. The detailed technical requirements are specified at Attachment A.
