Description
UNICEF has now issued a Request for Proposals in order to select a supplier for the provision of Expansion & Rehabilitation of public sanitation system for Al-Nasr & Majel Ishaq areas, in Dhamar city. The sewage system in all Yemen in general and in Dhamar Gov. in particular was negatively affected by the conflict since 2015. As a result of expansions in sewage networks were stopped and traditional sanitation methods are costly and negatively affect the safety and quality of underground water. Connecting to the sewage network considered more appropriate than the other options and represents a major humanitarian service, namely, helping to provide sanitation service at the acceptable level and at an adequate cost to the beneficiaries to preserve the underground water and to alleviate the suffering of the community, especially in the present day and the humanitarian, developmental and health crisis in Yemen. Also, women and children are suffering greatly from the resulting pollution in the surrounding environment resulting from poor sanitation services where many diseases spread, especially cholera and diarrhea. Dhamar city considered from one of the most expanding cities due to huge dynamic displacment, the quarters of Majel Ishaq and Al Nasr Al-Warqi are located in Dhamar city on torrents and rain streams and have a large population density, most of them are displaced, marginalized people with limited income. These two areas are rocky and strong, which makes it difficult for the residents to dig their own HHs pits. As a result of the foregoing, the residents of these quarters were forced to drain sewage into the flood corridor located near their homes, which made them vulnerable to the spread of diseases and epidemics in them, and the fact that these two quarters are the remaining areas which are not covered by the sewage network. UNICEF always supports the sanitation services projects as it will contribute to help improving the lives of vulnerable people, help improve their health level, environmental level and view of the city in general, and it will reduce the spread of diseases resulting from the discharge of sewage to the surface. UNICEF seeks to support Dhamar Local Water & Sanitation Co. (LWSC) with Expansion & Rehabilitation of public sanitation system for Al-Nasr & Majel Ishaq areas, in Dhamar city. With this process, UNICEF have assessed the situation and come up with an emergency prioritized intervention of Expansion & Rehabilitation of public sanitation system for Al-Nasr & Majel Ishaq areas, in Dhamar city, benefiting a total of 1880 people (IDPs & HC). Such intervention is in line with UNICEF WASH AWP 2023, Output 3.3 “More children, adolescents and their families benefit from safe sanitation services and improved hygiene practices at household, community and institutional levels.” and Output Indicator 3.3.3 “Number of people benefitting from the rehabilitation, extension or upgrade of sanitation systems”. The objective is to provide connecting to safe and appropriate sanitation for a total of 1880 people (IDPs & Host Community) in Majel Ishaq & Al-Nasr Al-Ulaya areas in Dhamar city, through expanding and rehabilitation of public network including (Site preparation, Civic works, Sanitation works and all other related works) with all needed accessories & fittings. The main objective is: 1. To connect the beneficiaries in Majel Ishaq quarter and Al-Nasr Al-Ulaya quarter in Dhamar city to sewage network and insure safe and basic sanitation services. 2.
