Overview :
Connecting Youth and Women to Sustainable Agriculture is a project implemented by UNDP in collaboration with TAHA and financed by UNDP Tanzania. This project is piloting advance specific solutions to complex farm-related problems to youth and women horticulture farmers, by setting up a sustainable horticulture farming, with a complete ecosystem of smart farm technologies. The project will complement the implementation of the ASDP II, specifically by contributing to the Components (ii) and (iii). This will be done through employing the innovation drive solution with a complete ecosystem of smart farm technologies in six districts, namely, Bunda, Same, Moshi Rural, Siha, Arumeru and Busega. This integrated sustainable farming will localize agribusiness production and cut off dependency on rain-fed horticulture agriculture which too often limits growing seasons and limit incomes to youth and women. By introducing a combination of good agronomic practices, water efficient technologies such as drip irrigation systems and field horticulture collection centers, we will extend the growing season and better support different varieties of horticultural crops throughout the year, thereby increasing production and incomes. The main purpose of the project is to impact more than 1,200 youth & women farmers and youth agro-based SMEs by providing innovative technologies to improve productivity and profitability of their economic undertakings and connecting them to markets. UNDP is supporting construction of 02 new community collection centers (Arumeru and Same) and upgrading 3 existing community collection centers in Arumeru and Moshi Rural. |
