Project Title: Resilient Recovery Programme in Bahamas Post Dorian Hurricane

Period of assignment/services: 3 months upon contract signature with possibility of extension

Background:

On 1st of September 2019, Hurricane Dorian made landfall in The Bahamas as Category 5, leaving devastating loss of life and large-scale destruction of assets and infrastructure in its wake, especially on the northern islands of Abaco and Grand Bahama. Thousands of people are now displaced and living in shelters. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is supporting the government and people of The Bahamas to recover from this aftermath. To this end, efforts will be made to strengthen governance through a focus on national and local capacities for planning, coordination and implementation of recovery efforts. The project will also focus on environment restoration through debris and waste management, livelihoods based on short-term interventions, and housing sector rehabilitation underpinned by risk informed and resilient reconstruction.

Scope of Work:

Communications Officer Consultant - to collaborate with and understudy the International Communications Consultant to lead all communication efforts of the UNDP Recovery Team and undertake activities to position and highlight the UNDP’s work and enhance the capacity of the Ministry of Disaster Preparedness, Management and Reconstruction in the design and implementation of its communications and outreach strategy.
